1970s Edwin Scheier Carved sculpture Symbolizing Fertility
Offered for sale is a rare, untitled sculpture of Guanacaste wood and paint by the listed American artist Edwin Scheier (1910-2008). Edwin Scheier was best known for his ceramic works with his wife, Mary Scheier. The couple moved to Mexico to study Oaxacan Indian arts and crafts where their pottery and woodwork were heavily influenced by fertility symbols. This sculpture is one of a group of three (the other two are offered in separate listings) that were recently acquired from a private collection in Rhode Island. This example of Scheier's sculpture symbolizes fertility.
