Description
This is an antique English silver plated ink well and pen stand, dating to circa 1890. The desk set is designed with an equestrian theme, featuring a large horseshoe pen rest. The set also features a cut-glass inkwell with a silver plated jockey hat lid. The horseshoe pen rest can hold up to four pens, with the rests artfully crafted to look like horseshoe nails. The set rests on an oak plinth base.
CONDITION:
Old glue and green felt residue on the bottom of the plinth, mostly removed. Slight tarnish to horseshoe pen rest. Cut glass inkwell in good condition, with only three small chips to the top corner points. Inkwell has a cut glass faceted bottom and a silver plated jockey helmet for the lid. Light corrosion and tarnish to the top of the lid, and old ink residue around the inside silver rim. Hinge hardware is still functional. No hallmarks or maker's marks found on the set.
Overall dimensions: 5 ⅝” H x 6” W x 5 ⅜” D. Oak plinth measures 5 ⅜” D x 6” W x ¾” H. Glass inkwell measures 3 ¼” H x 2 11/16” W x 2 ⅝” D. Silver horseshoe measures 5” H x 4 ¾” W x 2 ¼” D.
Accompanied by our company's letter of authenticity. -
