Description
Four French Empire period bronze candelabra
French, c. 1805
Larger pair: height 89cm, width 35cm, depth 19cm
Smaller pair: height 86cm, width 31cm, depth 19cm
This magnificent set of four antique candelabra comes as a pair of pairs: one slightly larger pair and one smaller pair. They date from roughly 1805, during the period of the Napoleonic Empire in France, known for its distinctive design style. Each candelabrum has four curved ormolu lights in the form of torches, which are shown being held by full length winged angel figures in patinated bronze. The figures are shown standing on ormolu globes which rest on triangular ormolu plinths. The plinths feature mounted reliefs of cherubs and rest on paw feet atop a triangular base with curved edges. These are exquisite period pieces, which feature beautifully intricate detailing. - More Information
