Description
Antique Viennese cold-painted bronze sculpture with a camel by Bergman
Austrian, c. 1910
Height 39cm, width 31cm, depth 20cm
Franz Xaver Bergman (1861-1936) is the artist behind this unusual sculptural desk piece.
A camel stands majestically atop a rocky road. His rider, dressed in a flowing, cream garment holds a rope in one hand and a spear in the other. The male figure is looking towards the other male, who is dressed more vibrantly in shades of blue and red. Next to the camel is a large container, surrounded by two urns. The container can be used as a stationary holder. A bright green palm tree extends over all the features of the piece, aiding in the creation of a surrounding in which the scene might have taken place.
The sculpture is stamped with Bergman’s mark, a ‘B’ in an urn-shaped cartouche, in addition to ‘GESCHÜTZT’ and an inventory number ‘2369’.
A display of Bergman’s creativity and ability as an artist, this sculptural desk piece would make a superb addition to one’s office space.
