Description
Viennese cold-painted Orientalist bronze group by Franz Bergman
Austrian, c.1900
Height 12cm, width 15cm, depth 9cm
This small but intricately crafted and designed bronze group depicts an Orientalist scene with two Arabian men and camels in a ruins landscape. Made by the foundry of Franz Bergman, it is executed in cold-painted bronze, and despite its small size it is superbly detailed and finished with a rare level of refinement. With a wonderfully realistic and appropriately muted colour palette, it shows two figures, one mounted one walking, processing through a desert setting, finding a brief moment of shade up the foliate of a large, leaning palm tree. Emblematic of Bergman's acclaimed Orientalist oeuvre, this miniature is a collector's highlight guaranteed.
