Antique Gorham Sterling Silver Coin Box with Ode to Compound Interest

$ 665
  • Description
    Edwardian sterling silver coin box. Made by Gorham in Providence, ca 1910. Barrel-form with engraved staves and hoops as well as three frames depicting the king in his counting house and serious-minded children. A fourth frame vacant with phrase “Money barrel / The time to save / is in the morning of life”. An ode to compound interest at odds with hoarding one’s riches in such a receptacle. Minor rubbing suggestive of tiny hands trying to extract the dimes and nickels. Fully marked including maker’s stamp and no. 5311. Very good condition.
