Description
Pair of gilt-metal and enamel ‘Fleurs des Siècles’ flower baskets
American, c. 1975
Height 16cm, width 18cm, depth 14cm
With their delicate beauty, these two flower baskets are sensational objets d’art for the budding collector. The baskets are part of the ‘Fleurs des Siècles’ (Flowers of the Centuries) series by the Gorham Manufactory, and the models were marketed as “blooming beautifully from here to eternity to grow more precious with time”. These models, alongside the many others in this series, were designed by Jane Hutcheson, who was inspired by 18th century Vincennes porcelain flowers.
These works combine vibrant jewel-like enamel flowers mounted on gilt-metal stems, with shimmering gilded woven baskets. The colours in this model are particularly eye-catching, with the petals carefully painted in shades of red, white, and yellow. The flowers and gold details are complemented by etched deep green leaves which peek through the delicate stems.
These superb pieces have an unfading quality and radiance that is truly singular, and would be a wonderful addition to any interior.
