Description
Pair of Empire silver gilt 4-light candelabra. Made by Odiot in France, ca 1910. Each: Raised and reeded central light with petal rim mounted to same and surrounded by three leaf-wrapped arms, each terminating in single light. Columnar shaft with stop-fluting on tripartite mount supported by 3 bare-bosomed caryatids with outstretched wings and central fluted shaft in turn mounted to same; round base. Leaf-and-dart, palmette, and imbricated leaf ornament.
A Belle Epoque homage to the insurgent and transient glory of the Napoleonic Empire a century before.
Fully marked including Mercury head fineness stamp (950), maker’s stamp, and no. 3347. Very good condition with nice toning.
