Description
Life Size Figure of 'Erin' by J.M Blashfield
H: 179 cm (70 1/2")
W: 61 cm (25")
D: 61 cm (25")
Truly wonderful and very rare, life-size, mid 19th Century terracotta figure of ‘Erin’ sculpted by John Bell and manufactured by J M Blashfield, model no 179 in their 1857 catalogue.
Erin is a representation of Ireland, with shamrocks in her hair and playing the harp, all beautifully detailed and in very good condition.
This statue is one of two made and the other is privately owned. John Marriott Blashfield was a re-known property developer and ornamental terracotta manufacturer during the mid-late 19th Century.
Blashfield worked closely with many architects and was known for purchasing moulds from Eleanor Coade to produce coade stone interpretations.
This is a fantastic piece that will elegantly grace any garden setting or even a hallway entrance. -
