Price Upon Request
  • Description
    Goddess of Liberty Weathervane

Sheet iron, wrought iron, iron rivets, weathered surface with traces of old yellow over original red paint, with custom base
Height 53 inches, width 35 inches, depth 1 inch

This singular image of the goddess of liberty captures her in an unusually animated pose, standing on point on an orb, holding a pole with a waving flag topped with a Phrygian cap finial. The one-off, blacksmith-made weathervane was crafted from heavy, chisel-cut sheet iron with wrought iron strap work secured by iron rivets. A unique example.

Acquired from its original location atop the cupola of a mid-nineteenth century barn at “Boxwoods,” the Carpenter family farm on Kings Highway in Salem, New Jersey.
