Large Japanese Meiji Lidded Cloisonne Enamel Jar

  • Description
    A large antique Japanese Meiji Era lidded brass and enamel jar. Circa: late 19th century to early 20th century. The sphere form jar is enameled with a polychrome medallion scene with two male figures and a medallion with an image of a dragon surrounded by blossoming flowers and plants patterns made in the Cloisonne technique on a black ground inlaid with Goldstones. The border of the base is decorated with a traditional geometrical pattern. An image of a bird and a figural engraved handle on the top of the lid. The jar is adorned with a technique of using metal powders to give a glitter effect to the enamel. Unmarked.
