Large Japanese Noh Mask
-
Description
This is a superb example of a large Japanese Noh mask in the form of a Guardian Lion. The mask dates to the early 20th century. The mask is signed by the artisan and was crafted of lacquered carved wood. The impressed signature is located just above the left eyebrow. The original removable ears are present; the mouth opens and reveals a carved and lacquered tongue. The mask is in good condition with normal wear and patina. This would make a great eye-catching table top piece or a focal point on book shelves or cabinets.
