Leandro Lega’s aesthetic research was closely linked to the inherent properties of the materials he worked with. He explored their qualities but also their cultural contexts. This vase belongs to Leandro Lega’s mature phase of working with majolica, just before his interest shifted to the study of porcelain and earthenware, which sparked his interest in oriental ceramics, especially Korean and Japanese, and their aesthetic peculiarities. The body of the vase is simple in form and reduced in color, serving as a canvas for an in- tense composition of informal sgraffiti that gives way to the power of the sign.
