Emile Galle Blown and Acid-Etched Art Glass Bud Vase
-
Description
This 6.25"H, hand-blown bud vase is by Emile Galle. It is made in amber frosted glass in a bulbous form that tapers to a clear, amethyst-colored round base. Over these field colors is another layer in darker amethyst glass etched to depict butterflies and clematis vines and blossoms. It is signed "Galle" on the narrowest port of the vase, as seen in the photographs.
This is a prime example of Galle's interest in botany and the natural world, and his innovative techniques which became characteristics of the School of Nancy within the Art Nouveau movement. The workmanship and colors are striking. -
