Emile Galle Floral Cameo Vase in Olive Green, Pink, Blue, and Frost
-
Description
This hand-blown, double overlay, and acid-etched glass vase features blossoms and leaves on a flaring, bulbous form. The base is a deep olive green and fades upwards to a rich blue, then to a frosty upper body with leaves and blossoms. The leaves are pale olive green and the blossoms are pink and olive green. These features have the hand-carved look obtained by acid etching. The vase is singed "Galle" in his script among the lower leaves.
This vase is a terrific example of Galle's interest in botany and the natural world, and it has his innovative techniques of glass-blowing, which became characteristics of the School of Nancy within the French Art Nouveau movement. These soft and rich colors are especially pleasing. -
