Emile Galle Tall Bud Vase in Triple Overlay and Etched Art Nouveau Glass
-
Description
This hand-blown triple-overlay and acid-etched bud vase with leaves and blossoms is in a long-necked bulbous form. The background color is a frosted pinkish ecru, which is overlaid with pastel colors of sage green, light blue, and white. The signature and its star are in the sage green color. The star indicates this vase was made in Galle's studio under the auspices of his wife after his death in 1904. The overlaid layers of colored glass are thick and have the hand-carved look by acid-etching. These calm and delicate colors are especially pleasing in this tall form, and the free-form, hand-blown techniques create a charming aura.
The vase is an excellent example of Galle's interest in the natural world, and shows his innovative techniques of glass and color manipulation -- all of which became characteristics of the School of Nancy, France, within the Art Nouveau Movement. -
