Pair of Dog-shaped bookends made of onyx and bronze
-
Description
Wonderful pair of Italian Baroque paperweights from the 1800s. The pair is made with a truly binding Onyx base. The onyx stone has been carved to make the paperweights semi-equal. Above each stone we find two bronze carvings made in the shape of a dog or rather a German shepherd almost watching over each book held.
The wonderful carving of the bronze denotes incredible details of the animals, such as their fur and physiognomy. Each animal is statuesquely placed as if to protect on the object held in custody. Of great elegance and value , the pair is ideal for period , classic and precious bookcases or on high-end desks. -
