Description
Pair of French Empire style malachite, lapis lazuli and ormolu vases
French, 20th Century
Height 78cm, width 47cm, depth 30cm
Skilfully crafted by French craftsmen, the unusual mixture of materials used for these vases makes them a very desirable addition to one’s collection.
Ormolu detailing decorates the vases throughout, most prominently on the twisted and fluted necks as well as the richly decorated bases. Malachite, a bright green gemstone is superbly worked on the vase bodies and is paired with a bright blue lapis lazuli panel. The same blue rock is used for the lids. Twin ormolu handles are mounted on the sides, each one shaped to depict a dragon. The mythical beast’s tail wraps around the draped ormolu garland of flowers and foliage.
Of an eye-catching design, this superb pair of vases would be a magnificent addition to the appropriate interior space. -
