Description
Pair of very large Bohemian cut glass, bronze and marble candelabra
Bohemian, 20th Century
Height 300cm, width 110cm, depth 110cm
This monumental pair of 20th century Bohemian candelabra is crafted from a selection of high quality materials, all worked to create superb decorative pieces.
Of an identical design, each candelabra is made up of three levels, the top one being the most lavish and prominent. Several twisted blue glass arms extend outwards and terminate with clear cut glass lights. These are slender, hurricane shades with wavy gilt rims and a gilt ‘RR’ mark (most likely the logo of the hotel they were initially crafted for). Blue cut glass candle cups as well as ornate clear cut glass bobeches are below the hurricane shades.
Below the largest part of the candelabra are two smaller, yet just as impressive levels. Extending from the central ormolu stem is an intricately patterned ormolu frame with some candleholders. These are topped by delicate clear cut glass drops. Blue and clear cut glass drops as well as star-shaped cut glass pieces adorn both levels. Adding a contrasting aesthetic are the patinated bronze rocaille-shaped arms.
In between each of the levels are bulbous cut glass pieces creating an elegant break among the very lavish glass and ormolu compositions.
A base crafted from two types of marble supports each candelabra. The brown and black colours match the bolder hues in the top part of the pieces.
Of an interesting and eye-catching design, this pair of Bohemian candelabra would be an outstanding addition to the appropriate interior space.
