Description
Great Italian statue in white marble from the first half of the 18th century. Work depicting a wonderful child satyr, of extraordinary quality. Mythological being who inhabits the woods and mountains is the personification of fertility and the vital force of nature. Companion of Pan and Dionysus, and called faun among the Romans, he is also represented on this occasion with pointed ears and goat legs. Lying softly on the rocks he abandons himself to the ecstasy among vine shoots. Work in beautiful patina, with some signs of aging. Overall in good state of conservation.
