Description
A pair of large ormolu mounted Sèvres style porcelain vases
French, Late 19th Century
Height 130cm, width 45cm, depth 35cm
These stunning porcelain vases were made in France in the late nineteenth century in superb Sèvres style. With beautiful gilt pinecone finials and covers, these pieces are lavishly decorated and richly adorned with gilding against a blue ground at both top and base. While other pairs of vases do show similar painted scenes, to have a pair of vases of this size, quality, and with the impressive gilt mounts, especially the handles, is very rare indeed.
The bodies of the vases are wonderfully decorated with mythological painted scenes, signed 'E. Grisard,' and which show Classical gods and goddesses reclining in a celestial setting. Classical ruins are shown on the reverse. The exceptional heavenly paintings on the body of each vase is framed with great style by the rich gilding above and below, creating works of great style, sophistication, and grace - a truly exceptional demonstration of pieces in the Sèvres style.
