This stunningly rendered Sumida Gawa Pottery Vase in Vermillion Red Glaze W/Clustered Sculptural Primates originates from Japan, Circa 1890. Features a vermillion red glaze with a vibrant effect as the base color, with more thickly swirled black and white glazed detailing emerging from the neck of the vase. The overall form is rounded and flattened with a narrow neck and base, applied with numerous sculptural monkeys dressed in various outfits and crawling in frenzied groups towards a white glazed moon, or a carrot on the reverse side of the vase. A brilliant and playful narrative in stunning condition, this piece will draw the eye of collectors and those who appreciate the unique ceramics of the late 19th Century, and will style well in a wide array of spaces and settings, from Classical to Mid-Century Modernist and Contemporary Interiors.
