A highly unique and rare Tibetan carved wood lion head sculpture of a temple dog. This fierce yet friendly looking beast dates from the late 19th Century; executed with masterful craftsmanship by the artisan in hand-carved wood, with dramatic large teeth and a powerful yet peaceful expression. The wood has a warm and worn patina, a testament to the age and the journey through time with faint traces of original paint. The sculpture has been mounted on a black metal support.

These Tibetan temple dogs are symbolic guardians; representing protection, strength, and spiritual significance in Buddhist culture. Their presence is believed to ward off negative energy and bring good fortune. This piece offers a wonderful sense of history and spirituality.
