American Victorian Classical sterling silver basket, ca 1890. Retailed by Tiffany & Co. in New York. Solid oval well with lobed sides and wavy shoulder and rim. Well and sides have chased scrolls and diaper, and open foliage. Scrolls and foliage applied to rim. Open swing handle with foliage and flowers. Four leaf-mounted splayed scroll supports. Sumptuous and substantial. Fully marked including retailer’s stamp (“Made for / Tiffany & Co.”) and no. 2218. Very good condition.
