Description
Two Russian silver gilt and cloisonné enamel Easter eggs on stands
Russian, 20th Century
Height 9.5cm, diameter 5cm
The two silver gilt and cloisonné enamel eggs showcase Russia’s long tradition of crafting richly decorated Easter eggs.
Superbly coloured in tones of red, blue, and white, the eggs are superbly adorned with a selection of floral designs. Large flowers are interspersed with scrolling shapes while in several parts of the eggs are bands of pure white circles. The stands on which these home décor pieces are displayed are of a very similar design, creating cohesion between the two. The silver bodies of the eggs are left uncovered, their darker colouration further highlighting the bold enamel colours. Each egg opens in half to reveal a hollow interior.
Both eggs are marked with the ‘84’ zolotnik mark as well as other markings in Cyrillic.
The use of the complex technique of cloisonné enamelling as well as the rich design make these two Russian eggs a superb addition to one’s collection. -
