Description
ZACHARY WEBER
Zachary Weber contemporary polychrome ceramic sculpture slice study. Exploration of space: a new direction of exploring form and space.
Words on Art and Practice
Zachary Weber (b.1997) devotes much of his professional career to integrating the natural problems of ceramic arts. Constructing vessels had been a metaphorical practice of finding order, and cutting out spaces, redressing the topography of surfaces, and embracing chance, being the inverse exercise of chaos. Chaos and order provides a template for balance, as though a work may be built with structural integrity, it can still be subjected to measured acts of gravity and the unknown dimension within extreme temperatures. Through the process from clay to vitrified ceramics, much can be subject to failure, but only with adaptation and physical negotiation, what was deemed unintentional can be rectified in ways truly extraordinary. The archetypes within mythical narratives and ancient architectures, along with chance operation, provided much inspiration during the artist’s process; each constructed within the crossroads of playful improvisation and extreme criticality. Pavilion is the collective vision of Deborah Colman and Neil Kraus, both graduates of the master of fine arts program at the Art Institute of Chicago. From a longstanding interest in art and design, frequent buying trips to France and Italy have influenced the direction of the gallery to offer items that are not easily sourced in Chicago and United States. Postwar design has been the focus for 18 yrs and we also look forward to new design that crosses boundaries and dialogues as well to the past
