Antique Tibetan Curtain Panel Wall Hanging Tapestry
-
Description
A large wall hanging tapestry, adapted from its previous life as a curtain panel in Tibet (circa late 19th to early 20th century). The textile panel was woven from a coarse wool material (may be yak) and features five stylized crane motifs in subtly colored rendering. Teh earth-colored background has scrolling pattern, only visible with attention. There are late added loops on the back for display as well as horizontal rug tapes probably for weight it down.
For similar Tibetan curtain panel, see lot 131 in Christie's London sale 5051 Chinese and Japanese Costume and Textiles on 13 Jul 2006. -
