Folk Art Hooked Rug Depicting a Prancing Morgan Horse, Vermont
-
Description
This Vermont Folk Art hooked rug depicts a prancing Morgan horse in black with interlaced dark blue on a field of red, black, and beige, with various sized gold stars randomly placed throughout. The material is wool. hand-hooked onto a burlap base, with hand-sewn black cotton banding around each side on the reverse. The horse's eye gives great animation to the portrait, and the stars give importance and celebration to the design.. This rug would be great to frame and hang on a wall, or to place as a mat on a prominent table. It could also be used in front of the fireplace as originally intended, but it is a survivor and maybe too nice for that ephemeral use.
