Description
A Chinese silk panel with elaborate embroidery circa late 19th century, end of Qing Dynasty. On the salmon pink background, the image depicts a pair of phoenixes perched on rocks surrounded by blooming peonies with butterflies and bats flying around them. Pheonix, the king of all birds, is beloved by Chinese and symbolizes royal and mythic power. Peonies is considered the most splendid and glorious blooms and associated with luxuriant beauty. The entire picture was hand-embroidered in long and short satin stitches by expertly using silk threads of a wide range of colors. The workmanship is quite superb.
The panel is beautifully presented within a linen mat with silk border and a gilt wood frame equipped with two brass hangers of Asian longevity motif and museum quality none-reflective glass.
The image size is 17.75" x 20.5". -
