    Samarkand is an ancient weaving center which used to be located at the famous Silk Route. Due to that fact antique rugs from the oasis city combine influences from numerous weaving cultures, from Persian and Turkish to Indian and Chinese. This magnificent and imposing vintage rug is the embodiment of the unique craftsmanship and upmost artistry of Samarkand masters. Its vast main field is embellished with a classic design of three bold medallions, two of which relate to the Asian concept of yin and yang.

    The central medallion constitutes a stylized emblem with geometric additions and flower motifs. This frugal yet pronounced pattern is accompanied by elusive Persian vase motifs, flowers, diamonds and kilim symbols. The borders enclose and enhance the composition with pronounced architectural shapes. The color palette composed of toned shades of mauve, rosewood, brown dusty yellow gives the entire carpet a truly timeless appeal.

    This vintage Samarkand rug was masterfully hand-knotted of the finest wool in accordance with centuries-old weaving techniques which ensured its ever-lasting quality.
