AN 18TH CENTURY LOUIS XV AUBUSSON CHINOISERIE TAPESTRY
AFTER DESIGNS BY FRANCOIS BOUCHER AND JEAN-JOSEPH DUMONS
Depicting a scene from 'La Tenture Chinoise', La Volière, with a lady tending exotic birds by the side of a stretch of water and with exotic plants and flowers scattered around. A parasol is closed and on the ground to her right. Reduced in size with a plain blue border. The colours predominantly blues, greens, beige and red. Finely woven in wool and silk and fully backed in linen. Circa 1760.

Following the success of the the first 'Tenture Chinoise' woven at the Beauvais Factory (after the paintings of Guy-Louis Vernansal and Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer, 1688), Jean-Baptiste Oudry commissioned a new Chinese Series from François Boucher for Beauvais for which the cartoons were painted later by Dumons for the Aubusson factory.
