Claude-Joseph Vernet more often known as Joseph Vernet was a French painter of the 18th century, born in Avignon in the south he worked in France and Italy and was a great painter of landscapes. This tapestry is taken from his painting 'Le Soir' painted in 1757, the final painting of a series depicting the four hours of the day.
