Turkish, 18th Century
Ewer: Height 41cm, width 27cm, depth 17.5cm
Basin: Height 15cm, diameter 43cm
This beautiful ewer and basin set is a delightful product of the 18th Century Ottoman Empire, with a striking design aesthetic. It is made from 'tombak', or gilt-copper, a material commonly used in the Ottoman Empire to make precious and ceremonial ornaments such as these.
The ewer and basin take a typical form, and each is engraved around its exterior with intricate floral decorations. The ewer has a long, slender spout with a thin, curved handle. There is a slight ribbing effect around the base of the ewer and the basin. -
