The gilt lacquered square plinth base with cylindrical drum decorated with central anthemion and knurled socles, issuing a fluted bronze column terminating with a foliated mount with key pattern motif, this supporting a opaque glass shade finely decorated with scenes of HMS Victory and the British fleet after the battle of Trafalgar, again with a key pattern motif and foliate scroll.

The shade is painted by the had of William Collins, very few examples are decorated with scenes of the British fleet, the most celebrated of these can be seen at Brighton pavilion.

William Collins produced a range of fine cold painted glassware to celebrate British victories in the Napoleonic wars with france between 1803-1815, the largest commission he produced was for the Duke of Sussex. -
