Edward Farrell English 5-Piece Teniers Lower Orders Coffee & Tea Set
-
Description
English sterling silver coffee and tea set. Made by Edward Farrell in London in 1838. This set comprises hot-water kettle on stand, coffeepot on stand, teapot, creamer, and sugar.
Applied and chased decoration in style of Teniers, the dynasty of Dutch painters, who are famous for their scenes of popular life: Groping topers, merry wenches, pipers, jiggers, and the drop-dead drunk. Figural finials and handles on creamer and sugar in same theme of beery idleness. Exactly the sort of low company that would not be allowed in the drawing room of at least one past owner. Note engraved coat of arms.
Tableaux of moral sloth from the second year of the Victorian era.
Fully marked. Very good condition.
