English Regency Rococo Scallop Shell by Farrell after Lamerie 1817
-
Description
Large English Georgian sterling silver scallop shell, 1817. Wide and fluted bowl with ornamental piercing and cast seashell rim. Scrolled caryatid mermaid handle with a stoical female face at one end and scaly tail at the other; engraved armorial. Three cast dolphin supports.
Regency sumptuousness that harkens back a couple generations to mid-18th century Rococo. The maker is Edward Farrell. Even better, it’s Edward Farrell after Paul de Lamerie. A twofer!
