Aurora sterling silver youth cup. Made by Gorham in Providence in 1874. Round and curved bowl on reeded and spread foot; reeded ring handle with leaves and acorn. Cast frieze depicting galloping horses with chubby cherub mounts; stippled ground and beaded and leaf-and-dart borders.
The Classical myth to explain the dawn as well as an allegory for the dawn of life. An early piece in this pattern, which was first produced in 1870.
Fully marked including maker’s stamp, date letter, and no. 1135. Very good condition.
