Late 20th C. Oversized Talavera Highly Decorated Bowl. Mexico Circa. 1990
-
Description
This "statement making" oversized highly decorated bowl in hand painted crisp multi colors of blue, pale yellow, white, orange, and pale blue is in excellent and all original condition with no chips, repairs or touch ups of any kind. In addition to the hand painted floral motif interior of the bowl, the decoration continues to the outside perimeter circumference, all the way down to the underneath where you can see the natural clay and the markings which indicate ""Talavera" "Antigua Hecho En Mexico" and the number "135" underlined.
Talavera derives its name from "Talavera de La Reina" in Spain (famous pottery center) and the influence was brought to Mexican Spanish colonialism in the 16th century.
This unique Talavera style is indigenous and unique to Mexico, where these bowls are hand crafted, hand painted, and then glazed.
This hard to find large size bowl would be very suitable as a centerpiece by virtue of its appearance, quality, or/and the size.
