19th Century Russian gilt porcelain centrepiece by Popov Manufactory

This exquisite centrepiece was crafted in porcelain and gilt by the Russian Popov Manufactory. The centrepiece is of bowl-form, and is crafted in white porcelain which is pierced with scrolling arches and decorated with gilding to the exterior and interior rim. The base of the bowl is decorated with porcelain coloured with a green ground, and the entire bowl is held aloft on the head of a gilt, Classical-style crouching putto. The putto kneels on a rectangular cushion with tassels at each corner, and is set upon a rectangular plinth. The plinth features an inlaid green porcelain top, and each of the sides of the ormolu plinth are decorated with gilded reliefs of classical masks and scrolling arabesques. The entire creation is set upon four paw feet. One of the paw feet is stamped to the underside with the mark for the Popov Manufactory.
