  • Description
This piece is typical of Salvatore Meli’s late ceramic work. Moving away from the vibrant colors he was so fond of in the ‘50s, he favored dark-colored glazes and clear-cut, simple forms, closer to geometric abstraction. Not surprisingly, it was also during this period that he explored a new medium: metalwork. His fascination with the classical world remained central throughout his career and the eye motif, which may have been borrowed from Etruscan or Egyptian vocabulary, remains predominant.
