Description
Victorian Rococo gilt sterling silver sweet meat chariot. Made by John Septimus Beresford in London in 1873. Engraved scallop shell bowl with pierced leafing scroll mounts; scrolled handle on which perches a conch-blowing boy astride a dolphin. A man in tunic and winged hood holds a turned-down trident over the head of dragon with raised wings and outstretched forepaws to propel the fantasy vehicle along the dinner table on rotating wheels. Fully marked. Very good condition with nice toning.
