Antique Edwardian Trophy with New Jersey Road Horse Racing Association

Edwardian sterling silver trophy with New Jersey horse racing association. Made by Woodside Sterling Co. in New York, ca 1910. Bellied bowl on domed foot. Rims have applied scrolls with scallop shells and fruit baskets. Side handles in form of cast horse busts set in wreath mounts. In engraved scrolled frames is acid-etched presentation. On front: “President’s Cup / Presented by / Adam H. Groel / to the / Road Horse Association / of New Jersey / 1908”. On back: “2:28 Trot: Oct. 24th / Won by Owner / Bert Brentford John H. Cuthell / Time / 2:29”. The Road Horse Association was established early in the 20th century and was in the vicinity of Newark. Fully marked including maker’s stamp. Very good condition with strong definition.
