A Pinton Frères label on the verso states ‘D’apres Le Carton De Calder Tapisserie D’aubusson Tissee Dar Les Ateliers Pinton Copyright Alexander Calder 1975.’ According to the Calder Foundation, very few of these were created.
Alexander Calder was a visionary American artist who revolutionized the art world with his innovative and playful sculptures. Born in Philadelphia in 1898, Calder initially pursued a career in mechanical engineering, but his artistic inclinations soon took hold. In 1923, he moved to Paris, where he immersed himself in the vibrant art scene and began experimenting with sculpture.
Calder’s style was consistently marked by experimentation, playfulness, and profound creativity. He constantly pushed the boundaries of artistic expression, challenging traditional notions of form and movement. His works embody a spirit of innovation, playfulness, and profound creativity, leaving a lasting legacy on the world of modern art. -
