Crewelwork Depicting a Flowering Urn with Birds and Animals
American School, wrought by Julianne V. Slice, dated 1841.
Wool on linen, mounted on a stretcher.
21 ¾” x 27 ¾” with frame.
Great condition, uniform toning along the edges, some oxidation to the surface.
In a period molded gilt frame.
Provenance: From the Kindig Collection, York, Pennsylvania.
This wonderful whimsical subject matter depicts a flowering urn flanked by vines and a tree with birds above and animals in the foreground. The symmetry to the composition of the work and signed by Julianne V. Slice 1841, adds to the rarity and desirability of the piece.
