1741 Georgian Band Sampler by Martha Hayter. The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches. Geometric bands in various patterns. Colours green, blue, yellow, silver, brown and black. Family initials, 'IH, MH, EH, EC, GB, MB'. Inscription reads, 'When I Would have slept in perfect place. And so commanded my Thoughts To cease.'. Signed and dated, 'Martha Hayter Her Sampler Finished august The 12 1741.'. Wonderful boxer motifs across the middle band. Framed in an old wood frame with glass. Mounting: The sampler is fixed to board. Frame backed with wood and sealed with tape.. Dimensions exclude the frame and slip.

Origin: England Period: 18th Century Condition: Good. Very Good. No holes. No stains. No stitch losses. Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy. No colour run. Small white debris behind the glass in the top centre. Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
