Description
The title "Hiraeth" was inspired by the love I have for my homeland, also the homesickness and longing I experience whenever I am away from home. "Hiraeth" was designed and cut during quilting demonstrations I was giving in Japan in 2001. The technique I use of Improvisational quilt-making was totally 'new' to the watching Japanese audience.
I have tried to convey in this work the sheer energy, enthusiasm and joy these people gave me during the demonstrations, making me forget for a while my homesickness.

Improvisational cut and fused abstract collage composition that is machine-stitched and quilted, primarily from hand-dyed fabrics.
