Description
On offer is an Ashanti female fertility figure from Ghana, West Africa, circa Mid-20th century. Carved from a single block of wood, the statue depicts a female with typical coiffure and facial expression on seated on an Akan bench. Her arms stretching out, likely were holding a baby doll in its original context. Around her neck and waist, she was decorated several strings of old trade beads of various colors. The surface of the statue was typically blackened.
