Portrait Of Abraham Lincoln by Kurz & Allison, Lithograph, Circa 1883
-
Description
Presented is an antique lithograph of President Abraham Lincoln, published by the Chicago firm of Kurz Allison in 1883. The portrait is a head and shoulders depiction of our 16th President, in a dark top coat and vest, white shirt, and dark necktie.
Kurz and Allison was a major American publisher of chromolithographs in the late 19th century. Based at 267-269 Wabash Avenue in Chicago, they built their reputation on large prints depicting battles of the American Civil War, published in the mid-1880s. The 1880s were a period of recollection and remembrance among Civil War veterans, and the company was trying to capitalize off this sentiment. In all, a set of thirty-six battle scenes were published from designs by Louis Kurz, himself a veteran of the war.
