Claude Gaveau was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France on December 5, 1940. He attended the Ecole des Arts Appliques in Paris for five years. Then for six years he studied oil painting at Ecole Superieure de Beaux-Arts in Paris. There he won a first prize from the Academy of Antwerp. With a scholarship he studied Flemish painting in Belgium which led to a one-man show in Brussels in 1965. Art critic Andre Weber described his paintings as symphonic. Gaveau was greatly inspired by the French painters Cezanne, Braque, Duffy, and Leger. His work was discovered more broadly and began to travel internationally to expand his subject matter and created a more variety in his compositions. His travels included America, Italy, and Morocco. His palette is most typically bright, and often his compositions are slightly abstracted, familiar forms (nudes, still lives, etc.) and captivate ones imagination.
Claude Gaveau's paintings have harmonies of color, structure, and emotion, drawing the viewer into the artist's interior vision. His work seems to withdraw from reality, yet not abstract. -
