-
Description
Important early 20th century italian oil painting on board signed Luca Postiglione. Portrait of a young woman.
Naples 1876 - 1936
Son of Luigi, he was a prolific painter, a pupil of his father and brother Salvatore. He exhibited at the Promotrice of Naples from 1896 to 1915 (1904, Rimembranze, Testa di donna, Sketch; 1906, Interior and Studio). He painted portraits and genre scenes, often inspired by Neapolitan folklore (Portrait of a woman, Pulcinella, Milan, Museo Tea-trale alla Scala), with a lively technique and marked by post-impressionist results. To this production he alternated a painting in duller tones, characterized now by dense impasto, in the manner of A. Mancini (Lettura, Naples, Bank of Italy coll.), Now by free and prominent brushstrokes (La madre, Naples, Administration Provin -cial). In 1904 he presented Orfana at the Italian Exposition in London and in 1906 he appeared with II lily and The threshold at the Società degli Amatori e Cultori in Rome. He also tried his hand at frescoes and in 1890, again in Naples, together with his brother Salvatore, he participated in the decoration of the Caffè Gambrinus and later in those of the Caffè Fortunio in via Toledo. He was also a talented dialect poet.
